Feeling Crummy? Buy Something Plummy!

This morning one of my close friends asked me, “What’s a big makeup trend for fall?”  Of course, this led me to thinking and the only new makeup trend making a big statement so far is deep plum lips.

Lipstick has made a big comeback these past couple years from bright pinks, to reds, to corals, to orange this past summer but this fall’s trend is surely one for the brave (or gothic.)

If you don’t feel bold enough to rock this trend, there are tons of other great ways to wear this royal color.

Here are some of my favorites:

I love Revlon lipstick for a couple reasons – it’s cheap and easily accessible.  When keeping up with the ever changing trends in lipstick colors this is the way to go.

(Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in Satin Plum available @ Your Local Drugstore, $7.99)

This Single dress from #BLUEFLY is great for work or after work cocktails.  Plus, it’s classic cut ensures it will be around longer than just one season.

(Single Plum Stretch Knit Victoria Notch Neck Dress available @ Bluefly.com, $131.40)

Seriously, these boots are only $55!! Boots are still a HUGE trend.  This color makes them a statement piece for sure.

(Michael Antonio Women's Mckenna Ankle Boot available @ Amazon.com, $55.00)

This bag is significantly more than all the other items but is a classic durable bag made for life-long use.  This bag tops off any outfit whether it’s jeans and riding boots or a tailored suit.

(Michael Kors Gia Satchel available @ NeimanMarcus.com, $895.00)

What do you think?  Would you dare wear deep purple lipstick?  Or would you rather try to wear it another way?

*Disclaimer: I am well aware of how the term "plum" is used in England.  To my Brit friends - is this still being used? Was having the worst time trying to think of a catchy title today!

Button-Down Ode

I always have a tough time dressing down because I’m such a dress-up girl.  I love my heels, dresses and skirts.  This isn’t always practical and sometimes a girl just has to wear jeans. Other than throwing on jeans with a classic cotton white tee, I’m a huge fan of jeans with variations of comfortable button-downs.

These are some of my favorite button-downs for a casual but sheek day.

The Chambray:  Not only do these tops look awesome with white jeans, they look great paired with OTHER SHADES OF DENIM.  Just don’t forget to throw on a patterned or contrasting belt to divide all that blue!
(BDG Doublecloth Breezy Boyfriend Button-Down Shirt available @ UrbanOutfitters, $29.00)

The Plaid: Not just for rednecks anymore! These plaid shirts now come in a variety of fabrics and are great for year long wear.  They look awesome with skinnies and riding boots, paired with heels or with your favorite pair of denim jean shorts.

(BDG Doublecloth Breezy Boyfriend Button Down available @ Urban Outfitters, $32.00)

The Trendy: These button-downs are oh so fun but don’t spend a ton on one because what’s in this season but might be out the next!

(Denim Knot Shirt available @ Topshop.com, $36.00)

The Fancy: These button-downs usually feature a fabric other than cotton.  They are the perfect addition to jeans and heels.

(Alice + Olivia Brazil 70’s Collar Button Down in Leopard Print available @ Singer22.com, $253.00)

The Classic:  This shirt is timeless (well, until it starts to yellow.) Classic white shirts look great paired with any color denim.  Throw on with a scarf and sandals for a casual look or a skirt and heels for a fancier outtake.

(MICHEAL KORS Button Down Shirt available @ Michaelkors.com, $79.50)

Here’s to you button-down shirt.  Thanks for helping me feel comfortable in jeans.
